I just thought I will play the devil's advocate.
It could be that $100 or $50 is a big amount for people. Maybe people do not make $80K a year, just half of that (there are may H1Bs like that). Micro-payments may be a better option for some people. Do we want to disallow those contributions as well? People who want to pay will pay and people who do not want to pay will not pay. I guess we just have to make sure that we donot deny the people who want to pay but cannot. :)
I am willing to go along with monthly payments as there seems to be a consensus on this forum that it is the best option.

What I meant is, if someone wants to contribute $60 over 6 months, they can do it rightaway. Just paypal it to donations at immigrationvoice.org, then remember to do it again after 6 months.
Why wait for IV to lay the red carpet, when you can walk in right now?
If there is the WILL, there is a way. But if you decide to wait for some scheme to sign up thousands of $10 contributors, then the day WILL never come.
This is not targetted to you, but this is for anyone & everyone who has been "considering" contributing for the last seveal weeks/months/years thinking about it everyday over a $2.5 cafe latte.

Would any increase in the H-1B cap enacted this year have any implications for the current year or would it only relate to FY 2009 and going forward.

Makes me wonder why we're paying our lawyers. I'm learning more from this forum than what he's told me over 6 years of interaction.

thanks for explaining. my suggestion then is to go to school on F1 (maybe ?) and get a degree that can help him/her get a job that qualifies under H1b.

@Cali - I wish we could have got it together - really! I know the frustration...But may be few more days and you will be through as well. lets keep the hope. You have been great although we got e-introduced only couple of weeks back...
anyone who is in the same boat - write on the forums - help each other and provide any nugget that could change the game...I do believe I got tremendous help from this forum and the morale support that was needed just to bear through each day. It helped me with my emotions and provided guidance and some comparisons.
It is easier said than done - but hang in there!

It's not a wise decision to invest in India for another few years. If a controlled market like the US experiences such short comings, you cant even imagine how things will get in India. It's going to be extremely volatile and the armageddon is just about to begin. Stay away from there.

How do we know we're stuck in the namecheck process?
Does the on-line status state that the application is in the namecheck 'phase' or something to that effect?

U can either call the 1-800 # or make an infopass appointment 4-6 Months after your first FP. If u plan to call, make sure u call 3-4 times because you might get conflicting info

I have visitor insurance for my mother who is visiting us. Recently she developed some symptoms. The insurance company told us that since the symptoms were due to a condition that originated while she was in India, it is a pre-existing condition.
My advice to you all is to get a physical checkup for your elderly parents in India once in a while. At least you would know if there are any issues which come with old age and you can take an insurance covering those existing conditions.

So please refrain from saying that in future.
However, if all you think of IV is as a message board and a bunch of idiots trying to fix things that may never get fixed, and if they do - you'll always stand to gain - a membership-based organization would better serve the needs of the rest, imho.

Logiclife. I know why you are responding to these comments you all are frustrated with such comments. I know it is hard to not respond but please ignore these asinine comments. Please have some of these comments linked to the main page. But believe me "barking dogs seldom bite." Such people will ultimately sap your energy. But, just like how IV is asking people to contribute please also ask them to use their own judgment, they do this at their own risk. There are many people like us who have faith in your group although we know you cannot do miracles. Please have faith and I sincerely request to all members & moderator that once we see these comments let us move this to the some thread called �IV bashing thread� and let the rest of us completely ignore them.
