I never claimed any amount for this holiday gift on this thread yet but what if I want to donate $31 or per say $ 81 one time, I do not have that option now and so I will end up not donating now and wait and donate when I feel comfortable with $ 100/- or its multiplications. That is called turning away and if you guys do not see any danger into it I do not have any further words.
Fund raising is an art and I believe our current startegy is lacking that art. If you guys see the base of any major successful fund raising (Grass root level not Political ones, mind well we claim ourselves grass root level organization)you will always find donors with $ 1 to donors with $1 million donatiing as per their will. Grass root level fund raisings can not afford constraints which normally goes successful in political and/or industrial fund raisings.
Some of the strong supporters of current policy, in their argument, automatically assume that willing donor always used to spend $ 100/- frequently for drinks or food and may be living lavish life style. But they are partly wrong in their assumption...I myself never eat outside frequently. Even on a travel trip I cook my food by myself and I normally do not drink sodas or alcohol so what abhijitp has given a example at least does not remain valid for me but I can not say that it is completely out of proportion, as it has some valid logic but it can not be true for everyone.
Point is if we make a wrong based fund raising policy, we may hurt ourselves only. I know my option, if I want to donate odd figure now, I will not be able to donate it now, and I will have to wait till I feel comfortable donating $ 100/- and/or single digit multiplications of $ 100/- but would that be considered a good and wise option?
For an example, I am emotionally charged today and I want to donate $ 61/-(As I may plan that much only..for whatever reasons) but I am not able to donate so I will not donate and say after 4 months I will be able to plan $ 100/- but what if at that time I may not be emotionally charged to donate all together? So end effect would be I will end up donating nothing ( This is just an example..:))
And for the sake of argument if you enrolled yourself $50/- recurring, you did it willingly and so would you change to $ 25/- recurring if $ 25/-option is available to you? (Note: I think most people on this board fear that with having a minimum amount option, most people will turn to that only but that may not be 100% true. and even if it may become true it will end up having more donation flow) For most people answer is no, I believe, They will stick to $ 50/- recurring option as they can afford and they did it willingly. But with current policy we are completely turning away the people who may otherwise donate, for an example $ 20/- monthly-recurring policy may turn 40 new commited donors in whereas $50/- recurring option is creating only 10 donors and thus we may be ending up $ 300/- confirmed donation loss per month. This is just an example and based on assumption that less amount would attract more commited donors.
Having said all this, if majority memebrs and core still feel that this will be the only future standard for accepting donations then as I mentioned above, I will have only one option left and that is to wait till I become comfortable for donating $ 100/- ( I will remain emotionally charged...:))
Some answers.
1) Paskal has already suggested how you can donate an odd figure with a personal check... it is a matter of time.
2) I think you can paypal whatever amount you want to IV using PAYPAL. You just need to know the email address of IV, as registered with paypal. I just sent you a PM, please check.
3) For the latest event conducted by North California chapter, we were accepting ANY amount for a contribution. I repeat, ANY amount. Would you like to know how many folks contributed in the end??
4) You are missing the point about expenses on gas/ food/ drink. Actually I have no business asking anyone to stop eating out (I know I love to do it every once in a while:))
My point is, you make no investment in your own quality of life when you do it. So why not invest some amount every month in your own future?
Do you think things will somehow miraculously change and get you your green card faster?
Would you also please note that some folks are working tirelessly and/or contributing regularly even as those who will benefit much sooner than themselves from this effort, choose not to pay even $10 a month to sustain this kind of a mammoth effort?

Although it may sound ridiculous but why is everyone want to put any limits to it. If proper controls can be put in place that there are genuine jobs and candidates are genuine then there shouldn't be any limits. How come no one wants to go for this solution. It actually makes more sense then just increasing the quota or not including dependents, etc.
No cap would be the best solution... but that is very tough to sell in Washington....That's why all this complications of asking to take dependents out of the cap and allowing overflow to go to China/India...
As I understand, IV already made these arguments to senators and even the senators who are sympathetic to immigration are not willing to remove the cap..The only thing they would accept is that the overflow would go to India/China/oversubscribed countries....I wonder if one of the core members would comment on this.....You do not need to name names....Just a request give a description of your interactions with law makers in this regard...That would put this issue to rest.....

:) Thanks a lot to all members for being with us in this struggle. We have tasted our first big success this year. Credit goes to each and every IV member. We were all affected by the visa bulletin fiasco and this is our victory. This is a victory for all our members and we must rejoice.

I completed my MS in Computer Science from US around 6 years back, was on OPT for a year & thereafter moved out of US & came back to my home town. Have been working here for 6 years now in the software field & have now applied for H1B under masters Quota. Was wondering if I am eligible to apply under this quota as I am neither a fresh masters graduate nor have any status in the US. Also, my lawyer has only filled out the I-129 form. Is there any special form that needs to be filled out to be considered for Master's quota?

Here is another case:
My minor daughter's Last name was missing in her passport but all her immigration documents (I-94/H4/AOS- r. n/ EAD/SSN, yes she got ead for ssn but never used it till date) somehow had her first name + LAST NAME. We initially ignored her missing last name in the passport but during her AOS finger priniting, asc guy noticed missing last name, made a noting in their system as "LNU" and advised us to get it fixed. We went to Indian consulate, Chicago and got the last name entered in passport, after due paper formalities.
My question to you guys is: Do we need to do anything else with respect to her AOS as all her uscis documents including I-94/H4/EAD/ssn, are already wth first name + last name ?
Any suggestions on this sitution will be appreciated !
If First/Last name in all immigration related applications/docs match with entries in corrected passport, I don't think you need anything else. Green Card, when received, should have entries as in passport.

i think v r f'ed up big time; part of the problem was setting our hopes higher.
on another note, if some ppl call this a rumor, I would say this is US and "almost all" rumors in US are true.

Strange really strange....I am sure RD/ND had not move back and forth so those who applied in late 2007 or 2008....did get approved even though their RD/ND was not current....What nonsense is this...
Now the other thing to worry is FP notice...mine is beyond 15 months and I am sure many are in the same boat....so the wait is longer.....FP and then again NC/BC.....what the &*#$

I agree farming is fun! I did farming when I was young back in INDIA!
Recently I toured entire US except a few states by road. I saw people doing farming in huge lands like other professions. I saw one community from india owning lots of motels/hotels! To my surprise 20/25 motels we stayed were owned by people of indian origin and most were immigrants.
To all who claim to be stuck in GC queue I strongly suggest a US road trip. It will show you parts of USA which you have not seen as well as relax ur mind.
Recently I toured entire US except a few states by road. I saw people doing farming in huge lands like other professions. I saw one community from india owning lots of motels/hotels! To my surprise 20/25 motels we stayed were owned by people of indian origin and most were immigrants.

Come on man - this is called knee jerk reaction - I can understand the anger because no one will tolerate beating children.
If something has to be done from now on in this IV community - write blogs about hiring nannies, and also warn people about what is happening on sulekha and ads on grocery stores etc... Ask people to be wary of all this. Such awareness will reduce these kind of incidents.

Based on experience from India:
Errors in Passport and Visa entries are problem getting fixed, and if not fixed, can become cause of problem anytime.
The passport issuing office generally can fix typo error in passport as "observation", which they will write in any other page of passport. Getting fixed in any other passport office (which has not issued it) is a lengthy process.
Myself, family of four had got couple of times Passport entries fixed and Visa entries fixed (between 1992 when I was frequent traveller). Typo errors are common. In case of passport errors they fix as "Observation" on the same passport (passport is not changed). In case of Visa errors, they cancel it and give new.
Obviously, once "observation" is noted in passport, you need to show everywhere that the entries are modified

Yes; he was out of status from March 2003. However; he had a valid I-94 card until February 2004. He didn't have a valid I-94 from February 2004 until april 2004.
once;he left and re-entered then the out of status time was finished. Since he didn't overstay his I-94 card by more then 180 days then he is not subject to the 3 year bar.
If his I-94 card expired in March 2003 then he would have had unlawful presence from that date forward and since it was more then one year then he would have been subject to 10 year bar.
